Sorry for being quiet for such a stretch, y’all.  I’ve moved to a new room where I’m staying and I’m having trouble getting internet where I’m staying so I have to go elsewhere to get this written.  But I wanted to quickly touch base on things.  We are just in our tech for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.   It’s been going really well.   Exhausting but well.  I haven’t danced this much in a while which is good preparation for Priscilla.  The cast is really fun.  We’re doing 11 hour days which is a bit gruelling but everyone’s in great spirits.  There isn’t much else to say right now but more will be coming soon.  Three weeks today I head back to Toronto to repack and turn around and head to New York City.    Oh, I do have some good news.  My P2 has come through.  That’s the visa to do Priscilla so now I’m all legal and official.  It’s really happening.  Woohoo

I just had to share this for those of you who haven’t seen it and for those of you who have seen it and love it.  It’s just clever and totally appeals to my sense of the ridiculous.

Here we are, the first DonnaBlog.  I’m excited.  So you’ll always be able to find the blogs about Priscilla and New York.  This first blog is about having measurements done.

So a week ago last Tuesday I went to Manitoba Theatre Centre here in Winnipeg to meet the lovely Lorraine to have measurements done and sent to New York so they can start working on my costumes.  Good God, people.  They took every measurement  you could imagine.  They could literally make a whole other “me” out of muslin now.   Seriously, every inch of me, it felt like, was measured and notated – from head to toe. Including foot tracing, measurement all over my feet, ankles, and calves for boots to be made, measurements for tights.  Tights – a 6 letter word for “what have I done to deserve this?”  I’ve seen the youtube videos and we pretty much have to wear everything you can imagine wearing.
Oh, in other Priscilla news, they have finally cast the role of the third part of the trio.  Nick Adams, who was originally cast as ensemble, is now playing Adam/Felicia.  I’ve been looking at youtube of him.  I don’t even know the guy but I feel so happy for him.  He’s been doing stuff on Broadway for the last few years but this is his first lead. He seems like a really nice guy so it’s a big break for him.  Love that.

Other than that, we start rehearsals in 4 1/2 weeks, y’all.   Woohoo.  There will be so much more to come.

Okay, y’all.  I just had a really beautiful message from a reader named Donna.  You can read it in the ‘comments’ section in the blog before this one.   She made me realize something.  A lot of people who are reading this blog (and there seem to be more all the time) have never been to New York or have only experienced a little bit of  New York.  So it made me realize I have an opportunity to introduce a whole bunch of people to New York and my experiences in the show and in the city.  I couldn’t be more excited.  So I will try to create those specifically as an ongoing series which I will for now name the “DonnaBlogs”  with a number.  We’ll see how that goes. Donna, I may realize that it becomes a nightmare with the numbers for you now, you are the inspiration so it will begin with your namesake.   Look for the first DONNABLOG tomorrow after I have my first measurements done.  Woohoo.  There won’t be much happening for the next few week after that but then it’s going to take off closer to when I finish here in Winnipeg in six weeks.  In fact, I start 6 weeks from today.

My God, I am in the middle of my luxurious 3 days off.  We closed RENT at Rainbow Stage on Friday night (it’s Sunday) and it was great.  A really fun run.  The last 4 or 5 shows were not just sold out but they had to add chairs.  And I have to say, every night there was a crazy, enthusiastic standing ovation.  The crowds really seemed to love it.  It made it really sweet to do.

Now I’m actually having time off.  It’s beautiful and sunny.  I’m never here (in the ‘Peg’) with “days” off when it’s sunny so it’s pretty great.   Done the gym, going for a bike ride, dinner with the family, maybe a movie or sit on my balcony here and read a book or mindlessly watch TV or watch a movie on my computer. Who knows.  It’s a wonderful thing to have some time off.  Then tomorrow, I’ll head out to the beach with my BFF KJ.

6 weeks until rehearsals start for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.  Now for those of you reading my blog, first of all, let me just say thank you so much.  I know you’re out there and I have to tell you I’m so thrilled and always a little humbled that so many of you keep up with my shit.   Thanks for journeying with me.  And I love when you can leave a comment to let me know what you’re thinking.  I don’t dig and will erase mean or negative comments but no one has sent those.  Thank you.  But every now and then I’d love to hear a thought.  Don’t be shy.  I just want to let you know that I will totally be blogging about my Priscilla experience.  How could I not?  My first Broadway show.  Come on!!!!!!  And I promise to really keep it up to date and keep it constant.  (Not every day, give me a break).  But certainly every 2 or 3 days, I’ll try to post something about how it’s going through rehearsals and then as things occur I’ll keep you up to date.  I’m starting to get excited.

So I guess you could call this the start.  I have to go and have measurements taken on Tuesday for costumes.  And so it begins.  I wouldn’t normally talk about this sort of thing cause but it’s just kind of funny.  I’ve gained some weight since my callback so when I was called to arrange for the measurements to be taken, I had to tell them to make a note that I will be “shrinking” once again.  So I have 6 weeks to lose it.  It’s not lots.  And no, I’m not going to tell you how much, you nosy buggers.  😉  I’ll just say, it’s not 50 lbs. but it’s more than 10.   hahaha  I’ll do it. It’s not he first time but that the project for the next month and a half.  I am mentioning it because I want any youngin’s  reading this to know that everyone has things to overcome.

And did I mention I have my place to live arranged for the rehearsal period so that’s fantastic.  Thank you Dathan.  It’s a little bizarre to think that in this brief 6 week period, I’ll be rehearsing, putting up and doing the run of a whole other show but I love it.

Okay, time to go enjoy the day, y’all.

Okay it’s the last performance of RENT tonight and I gotta say, I’ve had a great time.  The cast are a bunch of sweet kids.  (Kids, like I’m 100.  But there are times I felt like “grampa”.)  Really fun.  JOSEPH starts rehearsals in 4 days and that’s going to be a shock.  We go from a cast of 12 to a cast of 30 adults and 49 kids.  God in heaven, save me!  . . . or Buddha . . . . or Mohammed . . . or whoever can save me.  I’m open.    That’s a lot of “chi’rens”.  Looking forward to a few days off.

In the meantime, I thought I would treat you all to a giggle.  For those of you who know the original Lady Gaga/Beyonce video, skip to the second one.  For those of you who don’t, like myself and I’m not ashamed, here is the original.

And now the parody.  Christine Pedi is a Broadway performer who discovered she could do impersonations and now does a whole flock of ladies.  This is her parody of the video but in hers, the duelling divas are Liza Minnelli and Carol Channing – and she plays both ladies.  It’s not her funniest bit but it’s still pretty enjoyable.
